Many of us know the feeling: dragging through the afternoon, then lying awake at night with a busy mind. Sleep and energy are closely linked, and small daily habits make a big difference to both. Here are seven you can start this week.
1. Start the day with water and light
After a night’s sleep your body needs water. Drink a glass when you wake up, and get some natural daylight early in the day, even ten minutes outside. Morning light helps set your body clock so you feel alert in the day and sleepy at night.
2. Eat a balanced breakfast
A breakfast with some protein, fibre and fruit or vegetables gives steadier energy than sugar alone. Think eggs with bread and tomatoes, oats with groundnuts and banana, or koko with koose. Going too long without food can leave you drained later.
3. Keep moving through the day
Regular movement improves energy and helps you sleep more deeply. You do not need a gym: walking, taking the stairs, stretching or household work all count. If you sit for long periods, stand up and move every hour.
4. Watch the afternoon coffee and sugar
Caffeine can stay in your system for many hours. If you struggle to sleep, have your last coffee or energy drink by early afternoon, and choose water or a light snack when you feel a dip instead of something very sugary.
5. Keep a regular bedtime
Going to bed and waking up at about the same time each day, including weekends, is one of the most effective sleep habits. Your body learns when to wind down and when to wake up.
6. Create a wind-down routine
The hour before bed matters. Dim the lights, put your phone away or turn the brightness down, and do something calming such as reading, prayer, gentle stretching or a warm shower. A cool, dark, quiet room helps too.
Some people like to include a calming supplement in their routine. SunSet is a berry-flavoured chewable candy with Affron® saffron extract, valerian root, chamomile, passionflower, magnesium and L-theanine, taken about 30 minutes before bed to help you unwind.
7. Look after your gut and your mornings
How you feel in the morning depends partly on what you ate and drank the day before. Fibre, fruit and vegetables and enough water support comfortable digestion. Many of our customers follow the Triangle of Health routine: SunRise in the morning, SunSet at night and ColonGuard at bedtime.
Start small
You do not need to change everything at once. Pick one habit from this list, make it easy enough to repeat every day, and add another next week. Our free Everyday Wellness Guide includes a simple 7-day reset plan to help you get started.
When to see a doctor
If you are always tired despite good habits, snore heavily, or regularly cannot sleep, speak to a doctor. Ongoing tiredness can have many causes that need proper medical attention.
